George, I talked to my son through skype on Christmas Eve. He said he received the tree and other gifts. He was very happy to get this and said to be sure to let everyone know how much it is appreciated it. It was my understanding that this was the only tree they had and it really boosted morale for everyone there. He said they did have a Christmas dinner too and church services were available also. This reunion through Skype doesn’t happen very often so the conversation is kind of scattered as there were 7 more people in the room trying to talk to him at the same time, but he did manage to tell me that he is very grateful for the gifts and treats that are being sent to them and said to be sure to thank everyone for doing this.

Thanks
Rick

Ten years ago I was privileged to help produce a special CD to be sent to Jefferson City-area troops deployed overseas.  Several JC High School  journalism students came to the studio to record conversations with some special people.  The CD is called “Operation Merry Christmas”, and includes interviews with local veterans from World War II through Iraq and Afghanistan.  These veterans tell of spending Christmas in war zones and even prisoner of war camps.  The stories, as you can imagine, are compelling and inspirational.  The interview clips are combined with holiday music from the Jefferson City High School music department. These CDs no doubt helped boost the spirits of our troops overseas in 2003.  We received dozens of thank you letters from places no one wanted to be at Christmas time.

Most of the veterans who told their stories in 2003 are still with us, but a few have since passed away.  Their stories are especially precious, and are now a part of history. Now on its 10th anniversary, “Operation Merry Christmas” has been re-released .

The CD is a great gift for a soldier who can’t be home for Christmas.  They are also great stocking stuffers.  They are available at several Jefferson City outlets, including Home Savings Bank and Samuel’s Tuxedos And Gifts.  I also have them at KWOS if you’d care to email me at our website:  www.kwos.com.  Operation Merry Christmas sells for $10, with proceeds going to fund the Central Missouri Honor Flights and the Jefferson City Veterans Council.  It’s a worthwhile cause, and “Operation Merry Christmas” is a collection of music and stories that will add to your appreciation of the season and of those who risk their lives so that we may enjoy it.
