Robert J. Traxel, a 34 year old military journalist for the Missouri National Guard and a decorated veteran who served tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan, died while filming a helicopter take off on July 2, 2012.

Visitation for Staff Sgt. Traxel will be Wednesday, July 11, 2012, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Kutis Funeral Home, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, Mehlville, MO.

Staff Sgt. Traxel’s funeral service will be Thursday, July 12, 2012, also at Kutis Funeral Home.

The Traxel Children Memorial Fund has been established for Staff Sgt. Traxel’s four children at River Region Credit Union, 3608 West Truman Boulevard in Jefferson City. Donations may be sent to the attention of Dana Alderman.

By order of the Governor, all flags at all State and government offices statewide will be flown at half-staff for one full day on Thursday, July 12, 2012.  Flags will continue to be flown at half-staff, in Franklin County, from Friday, July 13, 2012, until Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in memory of Staff Sgt. Traxel.
