We mailed 7 large boxes of tree ornaments and decorations this morning to the soldiers we sent Christmas trees to last week. Special Thanks to: Betty Lohmann for purchasing Tree Toppers for all the Trees, and Ashley Hackett for taking home and wrapping the glass ornaments with special care after working a 10 shift at her job.

Next Friday, December 2, 2011 we will be packing the last portion of our Christmas Shipment. The packing party starts at 5:00 PM in the ITSD Conference Room at 920 Wildwood. If you can help – please let me know.

There is very little time left, so PLEASE make your item donations and monetary contributions AS SOON AS YOU CAN. Also, I really need youth leaders to volunteer to make Christmas Cards.

Finally, it looks like will be without our homemade cookies for this shipment. Can anyone step forward and help?

We have 10 soldiers for this final Christmas shipment:

Specialist Whitney Brauch
Cpl Dustin Fletcher
LCpl William Harris
CS2(SW) Anthony Hart
Cpl Daniel Lohmann
Sgt. Joshua Mickels
Panter, Christopher
Christopher Pearre

Flags will be flying at half staff this Saturday, November 26, 2011, for Specialist James Roland Burnett Jr.

From his obituary:

SPC James Roland Jr., age 21, gave his life in defense of his country on November 16, 2011 when the Stryker vehicle he was riding in was struck by an IED in the Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. James, a 2009 graduate of Clearwater High School in Clearwater, KS, joined the Army Reserves between his junior and senior year of high school and went to full active duty shortly after graduation. He was deployed in April with the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment from Fort Wainwright, AK and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, AK. He performed his duties according to the “Soldiers Creed” and freely accepted the risks involved with his job because…”Someone has to defend this country and that is what I want to do”… James was an avid hunter of deer and rabbits. He loved his three dogs Sundae, Angel and Cocoa and taking them on rabbit runs around the neighborhood. He loved video games and playing pranks on his numerous friends and siblings. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

On Tuesday November 22, 2011, we added a new 10th soldier to the shipment list; Cpl Dustin Fletcher, the nephew of Lisa Miller, stationed in Afghanistan.  Dustin was sent a 6.5 foot prelit tree on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, the day before Thanksgiving.

We mailed off 6 Prelit Christmas Trees this morning, Saturday, November 19, 2011; 5 were 6.5 foot and one was a special 3 foot tree for Specialist Whitney Brauch who can not receive a full size tree.

In total we are sponsoring 9 soldiers this Christmas. Two of the soldiers could not receive a tree, and one soldier was in the same unit as another already getting a tree.
