Staff Sergeant Edward F. Dixon III

A soldier stationed at Missouri’s Whiteman Air Force Base was among four who died in a vehicle accident in Afghanistan on Saturday, according to a Department of Defense news release.

Sgt. Edward F. Dixon III, 37, died in Uruzgan province, Afghanistan, from injuries suffered during a vehicle roll-over.

A Department of Defense spokesman said the cause of the accident remained under investigation.

Dixon listed his hometown as Whiteman Air Force Base.

The soldiers were assigned to the 4th Battalion, 70th Armor Regiment, 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Baumholder, Germany.

Other soldiers killed in the same accident were Sgt. 1st Class Alvin A. Boatwright, 33, of Lodge, S.C.; Sgt. Alan L. Snyder, 28, Worcester, Mass., and Spc. Tyler R. Kreinz, 21, Beloit, Wis.

By order of the Governor, all flags at all State and government offices statewide will be flown at half-staff for one full day on Thursday, June 30, 2011, from sunrise until sunset in memory of Staff Sergeant Edward F. Dixon III who died while serving his country in Afghanistan.

Also, by order of the Governor,  all flags at all State and government offices will be flown at half-staff, in Jasper County only, from sunrise on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, until sunset on Sunday, July 10, 2011, in memory of Staff Sergeant Edward F. Dixon III.
