Starting Tuesday, March 30, 2010 we will begin collecting humanitarian items to send to children in Afghanistan.  We will collect these items until  April 23, 2010 and ship on the 24th targeting their arrival to the kids around Mother’s Day (May 9, 2010).

Lt. Troy Sandbothe has agreed to be our point of contact and see that these items get to the children our troops encounter in their operations.

Items we need are: toys (they need not be new but must be in good condition, nothing military, and avoid human dolls; small stuffed animals, and balls are good), school supplies (paper, markers, pencils, crayons etc), hygiene items (tooth paste, tooth brushes, soap), snacks (no pork products), and candy (soft candy is better than hard candy and chocolate is desired even if it melts, M&M’s are ideal).

Collection boxes will be set up in 5 DHSS buildings and each building as well
has a person to contact to make a monetary donations:

> In the 912 building, the collection box will be located in the Employee
Break Room; contact for monetary donations is Marti Thruston, Division
of Senior and Disability Services.

> In the 920 building, the collection box will be located in the Entrance
Lobby; contact for monetary donations is George Lauer, ITSD.

> In the 930 building, the collection box will be located in the Entrance
